Women Human Rights Defender Jecinter Agunja from the Coalition for Grassroots Human Rights Defenders Kenya and PBI Kenya met in May with the Swiss Embassy in Nairobi to discuss the context of WHRDs and her work against gender-based violence.

Between 9 and 22 October 2022, Jecinter Agunja (Women HRD and Toolkit Organiser from Mathare) and Florence Mwikali from PBI Kenya travelled to Europe for a speaking tour. They visited Switzerland, France and Spain. During the tour, they held 24 meetings with different people, including OHCHR, the UN Working Group on discrimination against women and girls, UN Special Procedures on violence against women, ministries of foreign affairs in the three countries, and students. They also participated in radio interviews and events. This visit contributed to amplifying the situation of human rights in Kenya abroad with the expectation that the countries will support HRDs and the Kenyan government to implement its commitment towards ending violence against women. The visits expanded the network and collaborations for the WHRDs and exposed them to opportunities for material, financial and technical support.
