From 14-18 March PBI Kenya organised and facilitated a human rights training at Lake Elementaita, led by three experienced defence lawyers practising in the UK and Dubai. It was attended by 28 prosecutors from the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) as well as additional representatives from Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The training aimed at increasing awareness of human rights amongst prosecutors. It featured presentations from Nairobi-based human rights defenders from Bunge la Mwananchi and Mathare Social Justice Centre as well as freedom of expression campaigners Article 19. Issues that were addressed during the week included advocacy and trial preparation, their impact on prosecutorial decision making and their effect on everyday Kenyan cases whilst referring to international norms, conventions and best practice.
